Musical Dreams

Monona Public Library

1000 Nichols Rd., Monona, WI 53716

with Ann E. Aswegan & Andrew Nath

November, 2014 Exact Date TBA

Composers throughout history have written music that has come to them in their dreams. In this workshop, we will review some of the classical and popular songs that were inspired by dreams. Throughout the evening, we’ll be serenaded by vocalist/guitarist Andrew Nath, who will be performing several selected pieces.

We’ll share our own dreams of a musical nature – ranging from the sounds of wind chimes or the strains of the circus carousel to familiar tunes or even an original melody. Whenever your dreams are infused with music, they make more of a lasting impression on you and they often carry an important message.

Beginning and seasoned dreamers from teens to centenarians, as well as music lovers are welcome to join us.

Ann E. Aswegan dream consultant and author of Awakening to the Song of Your Self: Revelations by Day and Dreams by Night has presented workshops, seminars & retreats on dreams throughout the US for the past 28 years.

Andrew Nath, staff member at the Monona Library and music director at Lake Edge UCC Church in Madison has performed beautiful music for a wide variety of audiences.

Most of us feel called to support our loved ones as they prepare for their final transition. When end-of-life issues are honestly and openly shared, the dying process may be an enriching experience for everyone involved.

As individuals face their impending death, they often experience dreams, visions, or other phenomena that hold the potential to help them prepare emotionally and spiritually for their ultimate passage.

During this interactive presentation, we will reflect on how we can honor these phenomena and offer considerate responses to our loved ones’  experiences. We will also discuss the dreams and visions of close friends and family members that often appear at this time.

Dreams are not limited to the night when we’re sleeping. The dream state continues to function around the clock. Like the faint outline of the moon in the daylight sky, the dream or natural trance state quietly reveals its presence. We may catch a glimpse of it when our minds wander and we slip into a daydream or when we “get lost” listening to our favorite music. We may also access this “hypnogogic” state through various meditation techniques.

During our time together, we will have a chance to practice a form of moving meditation during our journey to the center of the labyrinth and back out again that I describe as a “waking dream.” By clearing our minds and focusing on a specific prayer request, we shall bring our concerns into the sacred space that envelops this ancient path. Following the graceful twists and turns along the way, we will have an opportunity to observe what happens within us and around us. After our walk, we’ll reconvene in our circle to process the thoughts, images and experiences that came to us. We’ll reflect on their symbolic meaning and come closer to understanding their Spiritual significance.

Ann Aswegan has facilitated workshops and classes in the US and Europe on dreams and personal growth for over twenty five years. She is the author of Awakening to the Song of Your Self: Revelations by Day and Dreams by Night originally published in 2011 with 2nd and 3rd editions released in 2012. From September, 2012 through June 2013, she facilitated a weekly book study on Awakening at Lake Edge UCC. Copies of Awakening will be available for $25 at the workshop.

Wednesday, October 9th from 6-7:30 pm

If you have suffered the loss of a loved one, you may have had an experience that indicated their spirit “lives on” after their death. These out-of-the-ordinary happenings stir powerful emotions and touch a deep chord within you. But how can you make sense of them?  During this interactive presentation, you will have an opportunity to describe these events in the context of a safe, confidential setting. We shall also consider various ways to open our awareness toward these experiences and discern their messages.

Some of the topics we will consider include visitation dreams, visions, hearing a voice, feeling a presence, smelling a familiar fragrance, or discovering meaningful coincidences that occur in your lives or those of friends and relatives. We shall also address any comforting or frightening dreams relating to you or your departed loved ones and how to understand their meaning. The option to share your stories or to just listen will be honored in our circle.
